Reusable period care is one of the rare swaps that costs you less, feels better, and creates dramatically less waste. Here’s the honest picture — including where we still fall short.
The scale of the problem
One menstruating person uses roughly 200–250 disposable pads a year — more than 8,000 across a lifetime. Each pad is largely plastic and takes centuries to break down. Sri Lanka’s waste systems already struggle with plastic, and sanitary waste is a growing and rarely discussed part of that.
What switching actually saves
- A rotation of five reusable period panties replaces around 500 disposable pads over its two-year life.
- A single menstrual cup can last several years, replacing thousands of disposables.
- Over two years, reusables typically cost less than half what disposables do — the environmental win and the financial win point the same direction.
Where we’re honest about limits
Reusables aren’t a perfect solution. They’re manufactured, shipped and eventually discarded too. Washing uses water. And they aren’t practical for everyone — if you don’t have reliable access to clean water or private drying space, disposables may genuinely be the better choice. Most of our customers use a mix, and that’s a real win, not a failure.

Small steps count
You don’t have to switch everything at once. One overnight pair, worn a few nights a cycle, already removes dozens of pads a year from landfill. Start where it’s comfortable.
